Villages Online is a portal with links to 900 village and community websites across the UK. You can search via the County or Alphabetical Listings. The historical data on offer is only as good as the individual websites, and it's fair to say that the process can be a bit hit and miss. If the locals are passionate about their village history though, you might find some gems. One website went so far as to list the villagers lost in wars through the ages. At the very least you'll be able to find a decent Bed and Breakfast, should you need to make a journey to continue your search in person.
