Glossaries. There are two very useful glossaries. One explains abbreviations and acronyms commonly found in genealogy, the other the meanings of the names of ranks, trades and professions. There is also an Online Medical Dictionary.


Census Returns for England and Wales 1841-1901 lays out the exact sequence of questions asked in each census, a good guide to what information you can expect to see on one.
