Pikimal
Pikimal is a new kind of search engine which aims to produce answers tailored to the specific needs and interests of the person searching for things online.
PIKI ME THIS
The website is the work of Eric Silver. It was founded in 2010. Mr Silver's site uses an algorithm which allows users to customise their searches by moving sliders up and down. The results thrown up are known as 'pikis'. These pikis can then be saved so that other users can take advantage of them.
SUBJECTIVE RESPONSE
The outpouring of subjective response online can be bewildering. You know the sort of thing. You're looking for a new fridge and wonder what has been said about the object you have your eye on. Jay 645 tells you: 'Boy, is this one cool cat' while Salxy6 says: 'This is a frigid bunny, stay away.' What do you do? This is where Pikimal is hoping to come in.
SEARCHING QUESTIONS
The search for a new kind of search engine in the post-Google world is intense. There are 'human powered' search engines such as Mahalo, 'computational knowledge' engines like Wolfram Alpha. Pikimal calls itself a 'decision engine.' Of course, only internet users will decide if they wish to have their searches powered by it.
