Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies
The IHGS is an independent educational charitable trust providing courses and facilities for people wishing to acquire skills in family history research. Their qualifications are widely recognised as the leading ones for professional genealogists, although they also offer courses from beginner level, through evening and day classes, full-time courses and residential courses held at universities and other institutions around the country. They are based in Canterbury but for those who can-not attend in person, there is a correspondence course that can lead to the Institute's Certificate in Genealogy.
