PinkStinks

PinkStinks is a campaign that aims to challenge the "pinkification and gender-stereotyping of children's toys."

THE CAMPAIGN

PinkStinks was started by Abi Moore, who runs the campaign with her sister Emma. The Moore sisters want parents to boycott shops like the Early Learning Centre, which they accuse of sending "narrow and damaging messages to children about what it is to be a girl or a boy." The campaign hopes to have an influence on a culture seemingly insistent on limiting the world of young girls to pretty princesses and the handsome princes that will come and marry them.

THE WEBSITE

The PinkStinks site is a space for discussion about gender roles, self-esteem among girls and the modern obsession with body image. You can support the campaign in a variety of ways: by making a donation, signing up to the Facebook group or buying a t-shirt from the PinkStinks shop.

The most interesting part of the site is Role Models. There you'll find information on a long list of woman in sport, the arts, business, music and other fields, who, unlike Paris Hilton or Katie Price, are known for their talent and courage. And take a look at the Voices section, where you'll find a fascinating story about two children from Sweden who in 2008 took on Toys R Us over its sexist Christmas catalogue.
