Trees for Cities

Is your city drab and tree-less? Do you yearn for a bit of greenery? Are the birds flying around disconsolate with no branches to stop on and catch their breath? Well, you might want to take a look at Trees for Cities, an independent charity with projects active in several British cities, as well as in Ethiopia, Peru, Bolivia, Bolivia and Kenya.

WHAT IT DOES

Trees for Cities
, set up in 1994, is involved in community tree-planting and landscaping projects and hopes to tackle global warming as well as make urban areas look nicer. It has planted over 100,000 trees in the last fifteen years. It helps to protect trees under threat and since 2002 has been involved in a campaign to plant a million more trees in London by 2010. The charity usually plants native species, but will on occasion choose more exotic species. Trees for Cities also works in schools teaching children about the importance of taking good care of the environment.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED


There are a variety of ways you can get involved from becoming a member to donating and working as a volunteer. The charity is hoping to create a networks of aboreal activists around the world so as to create what a it calls a "greening renaissance."
