Help for Heroes
Help for Heroes is a charity which works to take care of wounded servicemen and women returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
THE BACKGROUND
Bryn and Emma Parry established Help for Heroes in 2007. The couple were inspired to do something to help veterans following a visit to the Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham, whose Royal Centre for Defence Medicine looks after injured troops.
The charity has raised millions for veterans and their families and has become a valuable voice in British society, raising the profile of the difficulties faced by troops returning from Central Asia and the Middle East. In August 2010 a concert was held at Twickenham. There have also been bike rides, marathons and rugby matches in aid of the charity.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
The Help for Heroes website is extraordinarily detailed. There is information on how to donate and you can read all about the many different projects which the charity supports. The video archive helps bring the charity's work alive, with films about the funders, how the money raised is spent, as well as all the stories behind the various fundraising events.
