Amnesty International

Amnesty International was set up by British lawyer Peter Benenson in 1961. Since then the organisation has been at the forefront of human rights campaigning. With more than two million members and subscribers in over 150 countries Amnesty is synonymous with a belief that we can all do something to improve the world. With its direct lobbying, vigils, demonstrations and long running campaigns Amnesty has proved throughout its history that it is possible to effect change.

The Amnesty website is excellent. You can find out about the history of the organisation, discover exactly what it does and learn about specific campaigns such as Counter Terror with Justice and Stop Violence Against Women. You can also research human rights by country and topic.

If you're looking to get involved in some way there is no better way to start than logging on to this site. The How You Can Help channel will give you all the information you need to become a part of Amnesty. Regular news and updates, including audio-visual content, will keep you to date with human rights abuses from around the world and what Amnesty is trying to do to combat them.
