NHS Choices

NHS Choices is the website of the UK's National Health Service. This is an excellent site that helps visitors to keep healthy and find out more about health issues which they may be having.

HEALTH A-Z

NHS Choices is divided into five sections. The first is Health A-Z, within which visitors can browse health conditions alphabetically from Abscesses to Yellow Fever and get help spotting and treating conditions before they worsen. Conditions are explained, often with a video interview with a doctor or a personal story from someone who has been affected by that condition. Visitors can then browse the different ways of treating that condition, the available medicines, the clinical trials, the risks involved in some treatments and the reasons for taking action, depending on the condition.

LIVE HEALTHILY

The Live Well section of the site focuses on living healthily more generally. For example, preparing and cooking food safely, losing weight, stopping smoking, drinking safely. This area of the site features personal stories about beating drug addiction, having a heart attack as well as features such as how to prevent a cold. Visitors can browse for healthy living advice by their age and sex to find tailored information and advice on what to watch out for health-wise at different stages of life.

HEALTH NEWS

Carers Direct helps people looking after somebody who is ill, offering them advice and support on managing day-to-day care, finances and legal implications of looking after someone, their own health and wellbeing and combining a paid job with full-time care. Browse Health News to find out more about the latest health stories to hit the press and enter your postcode into the search bar within ‘Find and Choose Services' to find anything from a maternity unit to an alcohol support group in your local area.
