Made By Hands of Britain
Made By Hands of Britain is an inspiring website that celebrates and nurtures the work of Britain's talented craftsmen and women. Traditional and contemporary artisans are represented, across the board, to create a unique marketplace for selling the best handmade products this country has to offer.
A HANDMADE NETWORK
The site is designed as a place for buyers to find unique, handcrafted gifts or specialist products, but it also functions as a community resource for like-minded people to connect with one another.
The range of work on Made By Hands of Britain is staggering. From saddlery to sausages, stonemasonry to scissor making, all disciplines are embraced for the knowledge and expertise required. Organised into sections covering House & Garden, Building & Conservation, Theatre, Film & Music and more, you should be able to find all you need here.
Each craftsperson has their own ‘shop' from where they showcase their skill and sell their work. As Gillian Montegrande, founder of Made by Hands of Britain, states, "each product or piece of work, by definition, speaks of its maker, the locale and indeed the country in which it is produced. Any handmade item carries with it the mark and efforts of its maker, which is fascinating and irresistible." It is that sense of personality that is maintained on the Made By Hands of Britain website.
CELEBRATING CREATIVE DIVERSITY
In this age of global markets, it is heartening to see sites such as this leading the backlash against mass-production. In recognition of this courageous quality, Gillian, was awarded the East Cheshire Rural Women's Award for her work in supporting local artisans and producers (although of course her producers are from throughout the British Isles).
More recently Gillian was nominated for the NSPCC Cheshire Woman of the Year 2011 Award in the Professional and Community categories for her Made by Hands of Britain work in online support to promote local craftspeople.
At Made By Hands of Britain, blessed are the cheesemakers, blacksmiths, boatbuilders, calligraphers, puppeteers, silversmiths and anyone else who has a special skill.
