The Big Lunch
The Big Lunch is an idea of Tim Smit and Paul Twivy of the Eden Project. It will require you to be civil to your fellow humans for one whole day on Sunday 5th June 2011.
THE DAY
What's it all about then? "Imagine a summer's day" runs the message on the website, "on which millions of us, throughout the UK, sit down to have lunch together, with our neighbours in the middle of our streets, around our tower blocks and on every patch of common ground. The food, entertainment and decorations we will have either grown, cooked, or created ourselves. This will be a day to break bread with our neighbours, to put a smile on Britain's face."
If you are the sort of person that approaches the world like Larry David's character in Curb Your Enthusiasm, then you might struggle to muster up the kind of extraordinary enthusiasm necessary to make 18th July a caring and sharing jubilee. If not, well, plaster on those smiles and get dreaming.
THE WEBSITE
The website is suitably bright and jolly. You'll find advice here on how to organise your party and how to grow everything from courgettes to broad beans. You can find out the nearest party to you by putting in your postcode into the map search. The organisers also welcome any ideas you may have about how to make The Big Lunch even better.
