Meetup

Meetup is a network of local groups which makes it easy for people to organise local community groups or find one of the many groups that already exist. The site says it is starting a ‘local community revolution.'

THE IDEA

Meetup was founded by Greg Whalin, Brendan McGovern and Scott Heiferman. The aim of is to revitalise local communities and encourage people around the world to organise themselves into groups so as to make beneficial changes to their environments.

GROUP THINK

This is very easy to use. Just search the site by topic or interest, input your location and you will be presented with a list of what is available. Unless you agree with Groucho Marx and will not join any club that will accept you as a member, a cursory search or two here will probably provide you with a few things to do on a wet Wednesday evening.
