Jo Pott Mercer

Jo Pott has a sumptuous website that showcases a small selection of her minimalist clothes that are made to Fair Trade standards in India. Having travelled extensively and worked in India and Nepal, Jo has translated the skills and techniques of local craftsmen into a collection of highly wearable clothes with great appeal.

FAIR TRADE

Jo has adapted traditional designs to suit western tastes, selling clothes online and from her shop, Mercer, in Bangor, North Wales. She is a member of the British Association of Fair Trade Shops and works with a small number of people, committed to using traditional techniques. The majority are village based with production taking place alongside home life or in small workshops.

SIMPLY THE BEST

She has sourced the best people in each field (and high quality fabrics)and has taken time to study their weaving, applique, block printing and skills, ancient and traditional. The core collection is produced with Ayako Yokoyama from Tokyo. The same fabrics run throughout the year, enabling customers to add to their collection. The site offers just a flavour of what you will find in the shop.

FABULOUS FABRICS

The clothes are unstructured and minimalist, enhancing the fabrics with detailing such as pintucks, pleats and asymmetry using interesting finishing touches on the buttons. Available in black, blue and natural in two weights, the clothes are shown alongside interesting pieces of jewellery that can be bought in the shop. The collection is comfortable to wear (many pieces come in one size) they work well and most importantly are timeless.

LIMITED EDITION

The shop sells the Limited Edition Collection using a range of fabrics in cotton, silks and linen, with never more than one or two of anything. The website gives you a snapshot of what you can expect to find if you head to Bangor. You will also find a rich array of antique furniture, textiles, lamps, shades and jewellery as well, all unique in their own way.
