It's a British tradition that women may propose marriage on 29th February and as it happens 2012 is a leap year. Checking its history out on Wikipedia, the roots of this particular tradition are a bit misty to say the least. However, men, be on your toes as a question might be coming your way. LADIES LESSON 1: HANDKERCHIEF

On 29th February, it's a lady's window of opportunity to request a gentleman's hand in marriage without society's judgement. Should such a proposal be refused, then the gent (or scoundrel) in question must compensate such a blow with 20 shillings, or a farewell kiss.
