INDIA'S FAVOURITE SITES
Unhappy Hipsters - Takes beautifully composed photographs from the poncier interiors magazines and captions them in a way that both highlights their essential absurdity and suggests that the hipsters are not only unhappy but riddled with existential angst. Very very funny.
Lisa Eldridge - There are tens of thousands of how-to makeup channels on YouTube and elsewhere online, but this one's the real deal - fantastic, gorgeous, very clearly explained, achievable advice from a bona fide A-list makeup artist.
Letters of Note - Genius site that reproduces fascinating correspondence from well-known people - anything from Oscar Wilde explaining to an Oxford student why he said that 'all art is quite useless' to Elvis Presley trying to write a letter to his fans when he joined the army. Really brilliant site and often unexpectedly moving.
Kottke -Describes itself as 'a weblog about the liberal arts' and has been going since 1998. I look at it every day - he does a brilliant job of tracking down and editing much of what's good or interesting online and his interests are so wide-reaching that it's easy to get lost in there for hours.
Wee Birdy - I look at loads of design blogs but this is probably the one whose aesthetic I like best. I guess you could describe it as Londony, though its author recently moved back to Australia. It's quirky without being grotesquely cute (an issue, for me, with most of the design blogs - enough already with the cupcakes and weird retro fetish) and has a bit of edge; also I like everything on it.
Belgian Waffle - Subtitled 'Death, Despair and Biscuits'; the musings of a thirtysomething lawyer (and mother) exiled to Brussels. Frequently hysterically funny, but it's made me cry too. Somehow manages the trick of being extraordinarily confessional while remaining charming. She's an incredibly talented writer.
