Garan Holcombe, GWG Contributing Editor
Contributing Editor of The Good Web Guide, Garan Holcombe looks after the Culture and News & Information channels and has his finger on the pulse when it comes to the best books, blogs and films. Here, he picks out some of his favourite sites.
GARAN'S FAVOURITE SITES
The Onion - The American version of The Day Today. Barbed, brilliantly written and consistently hilarious. The satire is so accurate about the way mainstream news has become entertainment and propaganda that it's all but impossible to watch Huw Edwards and co afterwards.
Clive James - This is such a generous site. The former cohort of Magarita Pracatan offers relaxed interviews with the some of the finest minds of the day, superb writing and a celebration of the work of others.
Indie Movies Online - This recent discovery has become my new best friend. It streams free independent films like the magnificent Los Lunes Al Sol and features intelligent film reviews and in-depth features.
IMDB - Settle any film argument with this encyclopaedic site. This is great for finding out the name of thingy from what's-it-called and has one of the liveliest and bitchiest forums on the web; the battles between the arthouse and mainstream fans will probably go on until the day the internet collapses.
Wikipedia - So it's probably about as reliable as Peter Mandelson and has led to the publication of many fulminating tomes bemoaning amateurism; but how else would you know that Mark Kermode is really called Mark Fairey?
