CHARLIE'S FAVOURITE SITES
Bike By Me - If you didn't think that you needed a new bike, you will once you've seen this site. The idea here is that you create a bespoke bike to suit your taste. You don't have to choose the technical stuff; there is only one kind of bike with two frame sizes to choose from. What you can choose is the colour ... the colour of everything, from the wheels to the frame to the chain. And all for just under 500 Euros. Go there now and have a play.
Best Made Company - If the ultimate macho pastime is chopping wood, then the ultimate boy toy is an axe. But an axe is an axe is an axe, right? Wrong ... because the peerless Best Made Co. have axes that are so lovely that once you have seen one, you'll realise that you need one. They specialise in axes but they sell other cool stuff too; all of it made with love by craftspeople and all of it related to the great outdoors. David Lynch has one of their axes; good enough for Mr Lynch, good enough for us.
Upper Case Gallery - This is the website of one of the world's loveliest magazines, Uppercase. The magazine is independently published in Calgary and is for the 'creative and the curious'; if you fall into either of these categories then I guarantee that you'll love it. The website serves as a good introduction to this lovely mag; and there's a blog, too. You can subscribe online or buy it from us at pedlars.co.uk. We're the only stockist in Britain.
The Sartorialist - This is, perhaps, a bit of an obvious choice; this blog is wildly popular. But we love it and if, by chance, you enjoy clothes and/or cool/beautiful people and you have yet to discover the wonderful world of Scott Schuman, then this is one for you. What distinguishes this from all of its imitators is that Schuman not only has an eye for a good look but is also a fabulous photographer. And, to boot, he has a strong point of view, without being preachy. The Sartorialist has been hugely influential and it's easy to see why.
Etsy - It's hard to ignore this giant marketplace, a kind of cross between a craft fair and a car boot/yard/antique fair, where sellers can take a cheap pitch and see if anyone likes what they have for sale. There's masses to see, so a browse is worthwhile.
Retro To Go - I don't like everything featured here but that's not really the point. What I do like is their tireless enthusiasm for seeking out retro and retro-influenced stuff and their knowledge and enthusiasm. The world of blogs is a wonderful one and sometimes I find it hard to get any work done because of their siren call. This is one of the best.
GWG says: Charlie and Caroline Gladstone have a blog of their own, which is definitely worth checking out. It gives an insight into their work, the things they like and come across on their travels. charlieandcaroline-pedlars.blogspot.com
