The Knoll House Hotel, Studland, Dorset

The Knoll House is a country house hotel which sells itself as 'a peaceful oasis of traditional style and atmosphere, space and comfort'. Dating from 1931 and run by the Ferguson family since 1959, it houses 80 rooms, 165 beds, and has a long-established reputation as a hotel for families, slightly off-the-beaten track and very much a quiet retreat. There are 100 acres of gardens and grounds, and the website reckons that the Studland Bay is 'the finest sandy beach on the south coast of England'.
