Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) or cot death as it is more commonly known, is the sudden and unexpected death of a baby for no apparent reason, with the peak incidence of deaths occuring between the ages of two and four months, and 90 percent occurring by six months. The FSID was founded by Colin Baker after the sudden death of his son Jack in 1983 brought him to the realisation that there was very little information available on the subject. The FSID funds research, supports families whose babies have died of SIDS, and disseminates information about cot death and baby care among professionals and members of the public.
