Travel Gear for Young Explorers
We all look forward to going on holiday but as parents of young children the journey can leave us with a certain amount of trepidation. Taking children on long journeys and flights demands a certain kind of patience. However, if you are organised and prepare your children then this does not need to be the case.
Having travelled on many long flights with two young children and listening to other families travel stories, many of which are very amusing, we have managed to get it down to a fine art.
PREPARE YOUR CHILDREN FOR TRAVEL
Research your destination and talk to your child about where you are going and how you are going to get there, if there are no surprises then they will not become so overwhelmed by the journey.
Although it may sound strange dress up for your journey, it sets a positive tone and adds an excitement to the trip making it special and fun. It also gives a good first impression to fellow passengers that you are not taking the experience lightly and people are then far more apt to be patient and less likely to presume that you and your children are going to be a detriment to their journey.
TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE
Allow plenty of time at the airport, rushing is never good, especially with children and it is definitely not the way to start the journey
Do not expect your child to sit and wait at the terminal. Take a walk and check out the terminal displays, posters and shops. There will be plenty of time when your child will be expected to sit, so don't prolong it.
ON THE JOURNEY
Check to see what cabin luggage you are able to take, pack snacks and distractions, preferably not sugary ones. Sucking lollipops or sweets are useful during take off and landing. Children's wheelie suitcases are a fun way to store children's travel games and activities for the journey as well as being a great way for your child to feel independent. There are some great travel size games and activities; make sure you have them easily accessible so they can be pulled out at those most needed times.
We hope that you have a wonderful exciting holiday and that by utilising our guidelines and adapting them according to your childrens needs you find that Kids Do Travel! Taking your children on holiday is an adventure in itself and is an experience that fills our heads with wonderful memories for years to come, don't let it send you into a panic, just into organisation mode.
