Skiers today can buy goggles with GPS, ski helmets with video cameras and special touch screen ski gloves so you don’t need to take off your gloves to work your screen. They can access maps, check avalanche conditions, snow reports and descent speed at the touch of a few buttons on their smart phone. One of this year’s best ski apps is called Edge Ski.
Edge Ski App

Forget the blasted paper maps of yonder year and download Edge Ski that uses your phone’s GPS to navigate your course down the mountain. It has a speedometer that tracks how fast you’re skiing and will record times so you can later compare stats with friends.

The resort info includes seven day and hour-by-hour weather. But don’t get caught out; be smart and in advance, download the map and weather info from your resort for offline viewing. Otherwise, you run the risk of enormous roaming charges. This is one of Apple’s Best New Apps and has been seen in The Sunday Times, Evening Standard and Huffington Post.

Download the app on iTunes.
