Rebecca Fredericks

Rebecca Fredericks talks about her self development health and fitness brand for women.

RebeccaFredericks.com is a self development health and fitness brand for women that provides tools, tips and strategies through coaching and online and offline training to help women live healthier and happier lives. My single aim is to empower women to take control of their lives and create the health and happiness that they want by giving them the knowledge that they need and helping them to create real results.

What was the inspiration for the site?

I've always been a huge believer in self development and education and I felt that there was no UK brand that supported women and gave them the tools, advice and knowledge to empower them to achieve the version of success that is true to them.

I saw so many fitness websites and so much conflicting exercise, nutrition and weight-loss information in the media that I wanted to provide a one-stop-shop that helped women to become healthier and happier through educating and supporting them in their goals.

I believe in a holistic and balanced approach to looking and feeling your best and very few other people and brands seem to approach this industry in that way, for them it’s all about calorie counting or exercising like a mad woman for hours on end. But the reality is that everything we do needs to be practical and sustainable for real people and their lives. I also know how important an inside out approach is, and that to truly transform your health and fitness you need to work with your psychology. We all know we ‘should’ eat healthily, we all know that we ‘should’ exercise but few of us actually do what we know we ‘should’. And this is because of a number of factors; self sabotage, limiting beliefs, bad habits, inability to cope with situations without food or alcohol etc etc – only by addressing these crucial factors will women ever achieve their goals.

I also know that we are all different and that a blanket approach rarely works. A women in her 20s who never exercises has different requirements and needs than a woman in her 50s who runs twice a week - and this is why I customise all my fitness and nutrition plans to the individual - creating a unique solution that works for them and their lives. So whether I work with clients on a 1-to-1 basis or just online - they always receive a plan that is unique to them.

Therefore by giving women real solutions, that work for them, by giving them fitness and nutrition plans that are customised to them and their unique needs, by supporting them, and empowering them to create the bodies, the health and the lives that they want – I truly believe that my brand offers something completely different.

When did you launch the site?

The site was launched in January 2014

What are your greatest challenges?

I find that the greatest challenge is driving traffic to the site. There are so many millions of websites out there all vying for women's valuable time and attention that it's difficult to find a way through the crowds.

I also face a number of personal challenges and my greatest is probably my inability to focus on just one thing. I’m, what I like to call a ‘multi-passionate entrepreneur’, which is a polite way of saying that I enjoy and can see potential and opportunities in so many areas that I find focus extremely difficult. One of my ongoing challenges has been to create a focused product offering off the back of my website.

What's your background?

I studied psychology at University before starting my own fashion brand and running that for six years. I then became the Brand Director of a well known lifestyle brand. Whilst doing this I trained in Neuro Linguistic Programming and continued my studies in positive and behavioural psychology. I am also a fully qualified personal trainer and nutritionist and combine all these disciplines to help women lose weight and create the health and fitness that they want.

Who do you admire in business?

I admire so many people in business, anyone who has gone out there and created a career and a life that they want is always to be supported and praised. In particular I think Oprah, Ariana Huffington, Marie Forleo, Karren Brady and Sheryl Sandberg are women who have created lives and business that they love and that support, promote and encourage other women to do the same.

But if I had to choose just one it would be Oprah because of the number of women she has empowered, inspired and supported through her own life and her achievements.

Please recommend a website that helps you promote or run your business...

Easy Video Suite is an excellent video platform that hosts your videos privately, gives you all the analytics you could need to know about the viewers, is easy and quick to use and very well priced. When using video in your business this is a must!

What is the best piece of business advice you've been given?

'Wear your ignorance on your sleeve. It’s the easiest place from which to brush it off' - and I try to translate this into my working life by always asking for help when I need it and surrounding myself with people who are better than I am at the jobs I hire them for.

What is your motto?

What will you do with this one wild and precious life?

Where do you see the business going from here?

I want the brand to become the UK's leading self-development health and fitness brand, helping to empower, educate and support women through training, events, books and products.

Have you entered an award before?

I entered and won a #WOW (women in business) award from Jacqueline Gold. I was also nominated for Britain's Top Real Role Model.
