GreenPlantSwap

GreenPlantSwap is a location-based social platform for gardeners. Built around a database of 21,000 plants, users can identify, list, swap plants and promote events locally; or find new friends with a particular gardening interest anywhere in the UK. It's a free service. Founder, Jeremy Wright tells us more.

What was the inspiration for the site?

There are 20m+ gardens across the UK, all growing plants, yet no previous service has helped gardeners exchange the plants they grow and share the passion and interest they have in them.

When did you launch the site?

March 2013

What are your greatest challenges?

Changing entrenched habits and people not being bold enough to reach out to others like them for something that will benefit both.

What's your background?

Marketing and advertising. Nearly 20 years in digital communications.

Who do you admire in business?

Who can beat what Steve Jobs did for Apple?

Please recommend a website that you simply couldn't live without

Love Home Swap (no relation!) is a favourite of mine. Not just because we've had half a dozen or so unique ‘home swap' holidays in different parts of the world through it, but because I'm a big believer in the Sharing Economy. In the modern world we waste so much... and the internet can help change this.

What is the best piece of business advice you've been given?

Always keep your focus on the value you create for others (customers, business partners, colleagues, suppliers)

What is your motto?

Never give up.

Where do you see the business going from here?

Usage getting stronger and stronger locally, across the UK, which is good for everyone who uses it.

Have you entered an award before?

This is the first I have entered for GreenPlantSwap. I was previously co-founder and CMO of Enpocket, the mobile marketing/advertising company sold to Nokia in 2007. At Enpocket we won a dozen or so awards, many for our work with Vodafone, and Mobile Marketing Agency of the Year. That was a thrill.

Where did you hear about The GWG Awards?

Found you online.
