London Art Fair (13-17 Jan) - Business Design Centre, Islington. N1. Now in its 22nd year, you will find over 100 exhibiting galleries here, showing work by modern British and international contemporary artists. www.londonartfair.co.uk

Luxury Antiques Weekend (15-17 Jan) - Kilhey Court, Lancashire. A ‘boutique-style’ fair with some 20 dealers in art, furniture, rugs and jewellery. www.kilheycourtfair.com

The Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair (19-24 Jan)
- The Marquee, Battersea Park, SW11. Some 140 exhibitors under one roof at this popular fair, which is always an excellent source of high quality, competitively priced antiques and 20th century design. This time the foyer display will focus on Chinoiserie, highlighting the many eastern influences on British interior design of the past 300 years. 020-7624 5173 www.decorativefair.com

The Country House Sale: Newton Hall, Northumberland (20 Jan)
- Christies South Kensington, London SW7. A single owner collection belonging to the Widdringtons of Newton, who were a powerful and influential land owning family associated with Northumberland as far back as the 12th century. The sale will feature over 290 lots with estimates ranging from £200 to £50,000. Items on offer include furniture, works of art, Old Master, Continental and British pictures, watercolours, silver, Asian art, sporting art, miniatures, clocks, books and manuscripts and medals. www.christies.com

Gentleman’s Library Sale (20 Jan) - Bonhams, New Bond St, London W1. A popular fixture in Bonhams’ annual calendar and a good source of traditional library furniture, as well as globes, scientific instruments and curiosities. www.bonhams.com

The National Fine Art & Antiques Fair (20-24 Jan) - NEC, Birmingham. In association with LAPADA, around 100 leading dealers from across the UK offer for sale exhibits spanning 2000 years. David Chipperfield:Form Matters (until 31 Jan) - Design Museum, Shad Thames, SE1. The first major UK exhibition devoted to this architect, recently knighted in the New Years’ Honours list 2010. www.designmuseum.org

At the dressing table (until 30 Jan) - London Silver Vaults, Chancery Lane, WC2. Last chance to catch this selling exhibition of jewellery and accessories dating from the 1700 to the Sixties. Prices from £200 to £12,000. www.thesilvervaults.com

FEBRUARY

Watercolours + Works on Paper Fair (3-7 Feb) - The Science Museum, London SW7
Several thousand watercolours, prints, photographs and posters pictures will be for sale, spanning every style and period from the 17th century to the present. prices from as little as £100 up to £100,000 and beyond. Don’t miss the loan exhibition of drawings, watercolours and photographs from the Science Museum's vast archive of material, which is not normally displayed. www.watercoloursfair.com
