The Bertinet Kitchen in the middle of Bath was founded in September, 2005 by Richard and Jo Bertinet. Richard is a French chef & baker and author of the award winning book on baking, Dough. Along with his wife Jo, they run a number of relaxed cookery classes and courses for all abilities from their purpose built school. The emphasis is to provide their clients with the tools to enjoy cooking, whether as a beginner or a well seasoned cook.

The classes on offer are a mixture of hands on and demonstration. Hands on classes focus on seasonal ingredients, entertaining or culinary skills, the bread making course being particularly popular. They generally start at 10.00 a.m., with a light lunch and glass of wine. The demonstration classes are social evenings of chat, food and wine with plenty of sampling dishes and ideas for entertaining. The Bertinet Kitchen also hosts classes presented by local and nationally known guest chefs and food writers.

Kids classes in small groups take place during holidays or on Saturdays, lasting half a day. With a range of courses for pre-schoolers with parental guidance, over 5s and for school leavers and gappers, they are all geared to get kids enthusiastic about food.

To find out about the programme of courses, download the PDF file. For people who work in Bath, Lunch & Learn is a 45 minute demonstration class which neatly fits into your lunch hour. Courses coming up include classes on autumn entertaining, risotto, Indian entertaining with Monish Bharadwaj. Giorgio Locatelli and Tom Norrington-Davies are also due to make appearances in the coming months. Signing up for the newsletter keeps you posted with news of the course programme, special offers, discounts and recipe ideas.

If you are planning to spend a few days in Bath, enjoy the city and take a cooking course, The Bertinet Kitchen will provide you with suggestions of B&Bs and hotels, found in Accommodation on the website.
