Sanderson have made large strides in the past few years to give their collections a broader appeal. Of course, you can still use their products to recreate a sort of Merchant Ivory view of the past, but there are plenty of relaxed stripes and checks and stylized florals suitable for a more modern, more informal style of decorating.

The site provides a taster of their latest collections, but without prices, which might have made it a little more useful. Pictures can be enlarged in a pop-up window which, at the time of writing, did not prove to be wholly reliable. The menu remains along the bottom of the screen whatever page you're on, making navigation easy.

Spectrum Paint 1,350 different shades and types of mixed-to-order paint designed to co-ordinate with Sanderson wallpapers and fabrics.

Upholstered Furniture is supplied with loose covers within four to six weeks.

Made to Measure supplies not only curtains, but pelmets, tie-backs, bedheads, pillow shams, quilts, shower curtains and blinds, all within about four weeks.

Morris & Co In the autumn of 2000, Sanderson launched a range of wallpapers and fabrics inspired by the godfather of the Arts and Crafts movement, William Morris. The range includes new and recoloured designs in characteristically rich and earthy colours.
