Holkham Linseed Paints

Linseed oil paint was used extensively up until the Second World War. After that, plastic based paints were developed and started to dominate the market, as they do today.

Linseed oil paints are now enjoying a revival. Used from the 1700s as a natural and effective method of protecting wood, this paint lasts ten to fifteen years and can be used on exterior wood and walls, metal and interior wood. This beautifully designed site explains how to use the paint, answers your queries and gives you the history of linseed oil paint and why the Holkham Estate decided to use and develop it commercially.

The paint is made in Sweden and Holkham Linseed Paints are the sole UK distributors. Made from 100% pure linseed oil, which is derived from renewable and sustainable resources, the paint comes in several colours, all of which are dyed using natural paint pigments.

There are instructions and advice on how to use the paint and you can also take an introductory, short or eight week diploma course. You can order paint online or find a retailer in your area.
