If you have brocade tastes and a polyester budget, Fabric World might be the answer. They run two shops in Surrey, in Sutton and Croydon, and offer a limited mail order service. They will supply a quote on most manufacturers' fabrics, the minimum order being 10 metres, and will try to better any price you have been quoted for the making-up of curtains. They supply designer fabrics which normally retail at between £30 to £50 per metre for between £10 and £20 per metre, and their own collection of hand-woven silks at £20 per metre. It's a family-run company, and they pride themselves on their free design service. They will come to your home and advise on the soft furnishings, and all you pay for is the fabric and the making-up.
