Hambledon Gallery

This is the online mail-order service of Winchester's Hambledon Gallery, which specialises in smart accessories and small pieces of furniture in sensuous materials like rattan, soapstone, and mother-of-pearl. It's a fresh, modern site that manages to maintain its cool without being chilly. There is limited product description, but it is beautifully illustrated with the kind of simple, yet incredibly chic, photographs we associate with upmarket interior design magazines.

Use the menu at the bottom of the inviting homepage, which is divided into rooms. The one drawback of this site is that there is no way of knowing what items are in stock or prospective delivery times. Their motto may be 'carpe diem, and all that', but it's a shame no one seized the day to update the introduction to the homepage. At the time of writing, it was six months out of date, which does not inspire confidence.

Sitting Room The stylish merchandise presented here is great value and so well selected that you murmur to yourself, 'I've been looking for one of those', with every new page. Huge rattan log baskets start at £39.95, and you could add a little eastern promise to your living room with a great pair of bamboo tables at only £39.95.

Dining Room The pieces here could transform mealtimes from mundane to magnificent, with wonderful soapstone dishes and plates, mother-of-pearl spoons, and salt and pepper shakers, and striking wooden table lights.

Nursery If you're looking for a cot blanket that shrieks Milan rather than Mothercare, this is the place to look. There are also adorable newborn booties for £9.95, and a small rag rug, a steal at £9.95, which would look just as good in the bathroom as in the nursery.
