Contemporary Ceramics
Many collectors will have mourned the closure of Contemporary Ceramics in Marshall Street, London at the end of 2008 but like all good things, it has risen again and can now be found at Somerset House. The new space, although not as large as the old shop on the edge of Soho, showcases contemporary and traditional ceramics from up and coming designers, as well as renowned craftsmen.
DOUBLE THE IMPACT
Ceramics are often overlooked as an art form and Contemporary Ceramics is the perfect place for buying either when starting out or if you want to add to an existing collection. The company has a keen eye and you'll always find something unique, made with superb craftsmanship and beautiful too. In most cases, you'll pay a lot less for a decorative piece than you would for a picture, with double the impact.
Amongst the shelves, you'll find hand thrown mugs and bowls that can be used every day through to stand-alone vessels and sculptural forms, all reflecting diversity of thought and the different processes used in the making. Pieces on show have a wonderful tactile quality and are sure to fire up the enthusiasm to find out more or to make a purchase.
NEW ARTISTS
Every month, a selection of new makers will be introduced in the gallery alongside exhibiting the work of renowned artists, including John Ward and David Roberts. Expect to see work from Sandy Brown, Susan Disley, Lisa Hammond, Gareth Mason, Martin McWilliam, Aneta Regel-Deleu and Kaori Tatebayashi.
Contemporary Ceramics' blog is the best way to keep informed of the work on show and events. The blog has images of recent works along with biographies of featured artists. Also if you are a collector or just interested in keeping a finger on the pulse in the world of ceramics, it is worth signing up to the newsletter.
Contemporary Ceramics will have a stand at Collect 2009, which is taking place between 15th - 17th May 2009 at the Saatchi Gallery, London.
