Map History/History of Cartography

Tony Campbell of the British Library maintains here what he claims, rightly, is 'THE Gateway to the subject.'

SPECIAL FEATURES

The only problem here is the densely small print on the homepage. Try not to be put off, because using any of the links in the index immediately moves you to much more easily read pages. Map Collecting might be the best place to start, where you are immediately offered a whole host of onward links, including one to an article by Joel Kovarsky, hosted by AbeBooks and entitled 'The Allure of Old Maps' and another by Dee Longenbaugh, 'Primer for the Beginning Collector of Maps.' A third link goes to the website of Dutch specialist, Paulus Swaen, with a good article entitled 'Tips for Prospective Map Collectors'.

Another feature linked from the homepage studies Globes - History, and there is also much information about the commercial side of map collecting, from fairs and exhibitions to lists of map dealers worldwide.

Certainly a prime source for map collectors, with plenty of information and well organised links.
