Distinctive Chesterfields
Distinctive Chesterfields specialises in Chesterfield sofas and chairs, that are redolent of yesteryear and that are so often a feature of the quintessential old-fashioned gentlemen's clubs in London, with the furniture's familiar seasoned leather and buttoned backs.
Based in York, this specialist company stocks a range of Chesterfields in different shapes and sizes. All are handmade and craftsmen built using the finest leather and hardwood frames. Not confined to the range on offer, a bespoke service is also offered, enabling you to design a piece of furniture with contemporary edge.
WHY DISTINCTIVE CHESTERFIELDS?
All furniture is made on site in the UK using time old traditions, using renewable hardwoods and full aniline leather of the highest quality. Choose between Chesterfield sofas, club and wing chairs, as well as the buttonless Kent sofas. Orders are delivered worldwide between four to six weeks from initial order. The company has supplied Hilton Hotels, G8 Summit, UK Ministry of Defence and numerous consulates and embassies.
ORIGINS
The Chesterfield was said to originate from the late 1780s when a piece of furniture was commissioned by the fourth Earl of Chesterfield. The Victorians gave this type of furniture a makeover during the latter half of the nineteenth century introducing a sprung seat and overstuffed upholstery. The original pieces had a sprung seat and not a separate cushioned seat.
