The Postcode Plants Database

The aim of this local plant index is to encourage gardeners to plant the native trees, shrubs and flowers which are local to their areas, and it is an extremely useful resource. The new-look site works efficiently and now includes 90 percent of the British Isles. There's also plenty of background data explaining how the database functions, how it should be interpreted and its limitations. Navigation is easy, just refer to the permanent button bar which sits at the top of each page.

Special Features

The site offers a fair amount of introductory material, and explains what a native plant is, why it is important to grow native plants, and how the gardener can help. Checklists of native and endemic species of British plants, insects, and mammals are given, and there is a list of suppliers of seeds and plants of native origin.

To Search the Database, first type in the first part of the postcode you are searching for, and you will find tailor-made lists of local plants hospitable to wildlife. A photo and brief details can be viewed.
