Perry's Perennial Pages

The eponymous Dr Perry is a professor in plant and soil science at the University of Vermont, and this site provides masses of information on choosing and growing perennial plants, with articles frequently being added to the list. Looking around the site is reasonably easy: just scroll down the homepage to select from the main menu and return to the homepage by clicking on the links at the foot of each page. However, the site is very text heavy, and although audiovisual diversions are included on the site, additional software is needed to access them.

Parts of the site require Java for maximum effect. Realplayer G2 (downloadable) is needed to access the multimedia welcome files and music on certain pages. Across Lite software (also downloadable) is necessary for the puzzles and crosswords.

Special Features

FAQs are grouped by general topic category such as What plant and where, Care and culture, What's wrong? and General. There are a large number of questions and answers, and a good deal is relevant to the UK gardener.

For the Home Gardener is a resource base and includes leaflets, articles, radio programmes, and slide shows. Much is local to Eastern USA but there is also plenty of general information such as garden colour, designing with perennials, and the best use of the internet for gardeners.

Perennial Arcade has a number of puzzles and quizzes on the subject of garden plants.
