The Organic Gardener's Handbook by Michael Littlewood
Organic gardening is a form of gardening that does not rely on poisons or chemicals to control pests, diseases and weeds and which does not use artificial fertilisers. Many like the idea, but are put off by the thought of the work involved and the results, which may not prove as satisfying as hoped. Like gardening in general, organic gardening takes time and patience and knowledge to make work, but it's not as difficult as one might expect - particular with a copy of The Organic Gardener's Handbook by Michael Littlewood to hand.
THE AUTHOR
Michael Littlewood is a qualified landscape architect and environmental planner with extensive experience of organic gardening and sustainable land use projects around the world. In this book, his knowledge and authority on the subject shines through within the various areas that he examines in depth. These include:
* How the climate varies in different parts of the UK
* Edible plants, their families and their names
* Planning the vegetable plot and crop rotation
* Methods and types of planting
* Protecting plants and the tasks necessary for success.
Each of the seven chapters is exceptionally clearly laid out with charts, tables, images and carefully broken down information and analysis relating to each subject.
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
The Organic Gardener's Handbook is an extremely thorough and detailed book that aims to provide the organic gardener with the basic information for successful organic growing in a way that is easy and quick for referral. There are lots of books on vegetable growing and organic gardening, but few are as in depth as this one and it's great to have everything in one place. The book is an excellent buy for all those people starting out with Grow Your Own at the moment and a great way to plan, plant and work your garden or allotment in a sustainable, eco-friendly and natural way.
