British Pie Awards
Pork pies and the British go hand in hand and so it's no surprise that the British Pie Awards are held in pork pie central, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. This is the event where the British staple gets its moment of glory: a celebration of British pies whether savoury or sweet. Nowadays they're available in many guises and they'll be put through their paces by a panel of experts. For the purpose of the Awards, entrants should know that 'A pie is deemed to be a filling totally encased in pastry.'

THE JUDGES 2012
Xanthe Clay, Rachel Green, Charlie Turnbull, Lucas Hollweg and Charles Campion are amongst the judges this year. To ensure that the pies are judged to the highest standard, a number of the UK's leading experts from the butchery and bakery trade are on the panel. CELEBRATION OF PIES
The closing date for entries is 13th April 2012 and the judging will take place on Wednesday 25th April. Entries will be tasted at St. Mary's Church in Melton Mowbray. Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association, organisers of the event, aim to achieve the following:-
To celebrate the heritage of the British pie
To protect and promote regional specialities
To recognise the craft of bakers, butchers and other producers
To support British produce

2. Pork Pie
3. Steak and Kidney Pie
4. Beef and any flavour combination pie
5. Beef and ale
6. Lamb
7. Chicken and any flavour combination

10. Fish Pie -
11. Vegetarian Pie
12. Cornish Pasty
13. Other Pasty
14. Dessert Pie
15. Pub Pie
16. Football Pie
