Get ready for the Big Lunch

Following on from the successes of Royal Wedding street parties, MasterCard is encouraging people to get to know their neighbours by signing up for this year's Big Lunch on Sunday 5th June.



It's a simple idea and now in its third year with the aim to get as many people as possible across the UK having lunch with one another. A simple act of community, friendship and fun. It doesn't matter how big or small, whether you want to organise a few neighbours or get your street involved. Since starting in 2009, over one million people take part every year.

RECORD BREAKER

in the run up to this year's event, Londoners gathered to be part of history with a record breaking world's longest picnic table. Situat by Tower Bridge, a 90 metre table was assembled (30 ordinary tables) and laden with free food and drink. Following the lunch, the picnic table was divided into sections and smaller tables donated to some of the Big Lunch's most supportive boroughs.

Alex James, former Blur star turned cheesemaker hosted the MasterCard sponsored lunch and world record breaking attempt. He was joined by London Mayor Boris Johnson, both of whom are encouraging everyone in the UK to host their own Big Lunch on Sunday 5th June.
