Veggies Unite

A lively site from Fort Wayne, Indiana, catering to young-at-heart, streetwise veggies. Information comes from a wide variety of sources, including visitors' own contributions. The recipe database is a popular link from other websites. The beige background makes reading easy, except when text is in italic; using your toolbar to enlarge the text may help to make it more readable. To navigate, click on the red menu tabs running along the centre of the page. Beneath is a quick access strip to the recipe of the week. You will not be able to use the weekly meal planner or automatic grocery list compiler unless you register.

Special Features

Recipes can be searched by keyword, first letter of the recipe title, or types of dish. If using ready-made sauces and spray non-stick coating is going to put you off, don't bother, but you might miss out on some nifty suggestions, especially for kids' favourites like hot'n'spicy vegan nachos or BBQ tofu with rice. There's also a sprinkling of more sophisticated dishes, a weekly meal planner, a grocery list compiler, a measurement conversions page, and an opportunity to contribute your own recipes.

Books recommends a comprehensive list of titles, many of which have review articles linked to the title. There are also sections dedicated to specific authors with links to their own websites.

Q&A is the message board section, very well attended.

Veg Info includes a glossary that you can search by letter or keyword, FAQs, information on vitamins and minerals and the recommended daily intake, an article comparing the vitamin content of foods, and another offering tips for living harmoniously with meat-eaters.

Links are provided to personal and commercial sites, including Amazon, The Recipe Exchange, and a free nutritional analysis tool set up by the University of Illinois. You can also read veggie poetry and personal testimonies, and join a weekly recipe email list.
