Vegan Action

This non-profit, educational organisation based in Berkeley, California, aims to promote the vegan diet and lifestyle and the availability of vegan foods. The site is simply but attractively designed, and material is written in a no-nonsense style with thorough explanations. However, the claims of mass rejoicing at the organisation's distribution of free soya milk really demand proof. As we went to press some of the site was still under construction; and, although it looks stylish, some of the graphics can be slow to download. Choose the section you are interested in by clicking on the green buttons down the left of the page.

SPECIAL FEATURES

News is a large file requiring Adobe Acrobat Reader, a free download of which can be accessed on site.

FAQs covers common concerns such as achieving a healthy vegan diet, with enough vitamin B12, protein, and calcium. It also makes the intriguing revelation that sugar is not vegan, and reports that the purifying charcoal used in sugar production comes from beef bones.

Campaigns reports on Vegan Action's more political activities, introduces the organisation's Reggie McVeggie character, and reproduces the letter Vegan Action subsequently received from McDonalds about its use of the golden arches logo.

OTHER FEATURES

The site also lists recommended books and restaurants, and gives general information on the organisation, the vegan certification campaign, how to join and how to obtain a catalogue.
