British Trout Association

Unless you're vegetarian or vegan, you could probably do with eating more trout. Why? Current healthy eating advice is that we should eat oily fish at least once a week and trout, although a pink and delicately sweet-fleshed oily fish similar to salmon, is remarkably less expensive and lower in fat. The British Trout Association represents 80 per cent of trout producers in the UK but members also include feed suppliers and agricultural academics. This site is aimed at the general public as well as the association and its potential members.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

Fishy Facts
This comprehensive section covers subjects such as trout breeds, the history of fish farming and health issues. The trout is a member of the salmon family of freshwater fish (as are char and grayling). Rainbow trout is the one most commonly farmed in the UK, however there are two producers in this country of the unusual Golden trout, known as a fish from heaven by the Americans. The details of recommended Omega 3 and Omega 6 intake is very useful - clearly but thoroughly explained.

Recipes and Cooking Antony Worrall Thompson seems to get everywhere, doesn't he? Well, here he is again with a recipe for trout saltimbocca and a few tips for the barbie. Other dishes offered include barbecued trout in a red pepper blanket, blackened trout with herb couscous, tea-smoked trout with squash and coriander oil and trout with lime and caper sauce. If you want simple information on baking, frying, grilling, microwaving or poaching trout, that's here too.

Trout Farms Amongst the directory here are 11 mail order trout companies, eight organic trout producers, 14 farm shops and 13 farmers' market stalls selling trout.
