The Spice Shop

This is Birgit Erath's online shop for those of us for whom Notting Hill is further than a step away. You can now order everything online from her tiny shop in Blenheim Crescent, opposite GWG's favourite Books for Cooks. It must seem a long time ago when Birgit first touted her wares on a stall in Portobello Road every Saturday.

All the herbs and spices are natural and additive free. They are freshly ground and mixed by the Spice Shop.

And what an Aladdin's cave this site is. Aromatic, fragrant and almost steamy as you wander through pages of leaves, barks and roots. Birgit has put together Spice Bundles that relate to celebrity cook recipes. These are useful if you want somewhere to start for you will come across herbs and spices that you have never heard of. The Japanese section is extensive and as everything is listed alphabetically, easy to find. Tomato powder could be a useful thing to have around your kitchen. We didn't know it existed.

Recipes are taken from Birgit's successful book, Barbecue Where There's Smoke There's Flavour, which she wrote with Books for Cooks' Eric Treuille.

The only place to go for spices, naturally.
