Speciality Farm Foods
Speciality Farm Foods has sourced an exceptional range of store cupboard culinary ingredients from around the world. The company's name gives away no clues as to what you'll discover within the site. These are rare treats, many of them new to the UK, that have been produced by small farmers and artisans of their trade.
Set up by Alan Porter, who founded The Chocolate Society, Speciality Farm Foods is based at Cleave Farm in Devon and the plan is to develop its own range of traditional farm foods with a flourmill and bakery due to open on site. Meanwhile Alan has scoured the world meeting suppliers and farmers who practise sustainable methods that protect both environment and communities. The food is in the main produced on organic principles and where possible, certified.
WHAT'S ON OFFER
Teas and coffees, sugar and spice, salts and peppers, nuts and cereals are all available but these are not any old ingredients. Read about products in detail with information on provenance, brewing or cooking guides, a photo gallery so that customers can connect with the food and the people harvesting the crop and the region. Rare Chinese and Nepalese teas, vintage coffee beans, salt diamonds from Tibet (that need to be grated at the table with a microplane grater) are there to tempt.
The sugar category has interesting suggestions with Vermont maple sugar, which is boiled and granulated maple syrup and coconut palm sugar from Indonesia, which has the lowest glycemic index of all the sugars. Raw cocoa kernels, Indonesian long peppercorns, Mexican vanilla extract and pods, Turkish honey are also on the list. All products are packaged in smart Speciality Farm Foods boxes.
CULINARY TOOLS
This category is similarly interesting with traditional Italian cookware made from ollar stone (soap stone) by Agnelli, graters, teaware and home milling equipment.
There are also recipes for the products in the range, which have been developed by Alan Porter, by the producers themselves and chefs who use the products.
New customers can request a tasting sample and for those ready to buy immediately, orders over £100 are inclusive of delivery.
