Flavours of Spain

Northern Spain has long been the home of a unique culinary heritage and Flavours of Spain has brought the best artisan made gourmet food and Galician wine to the UK market. With the company's expertise and knowledge of Spain's gastronomy, it is proud to work with some of the country's leading chefs and restaurants.

Galicia is a remarkably unspoilt area of northern Spain with its Atlantic coast and unpolluted rivers and streams alongside lush pastures that over the centuries have given rise to fabulous produce. Flavours of Spain has scoured the country to bring the best to its customers in the UK with many products available for the first time over here. Regularly picked up in the press, featured products have appeared in The Observer Food Monthly, Restaurant Magazine, Conde Nast Traveller and House & Garden. Most recently, the company launched Flor de Sal hand-harvested sea salts, along with its new organic extra virgin olive oil Cortijo de Suerte Alta coupage in Harrods, London.

ARTISAN SOURCED

The founders of the company have sourced the produce from traditional, family run businesses, who use top quality ingredients at their freshest. The selection ranges from fish and seafood, hand-harvested seaweed and vegetables (check out the Piquillo peppers), award winning olive oils and vinegar, nuts, organic confectionery and wine. All products have guaranteed quality and comply with Spanish quality standards, more of which you can read about online.

A selection of 100% natural Galician chorizos, including Chorizo picante, a premium cooking chorizo and a traditional Galician cooking chorizo with online, that is soft and juicy and bursts with flavour, has been added to the range, complimenting the Iberico meats.

The Atlantic Spanish have the sea in their soul and so it's not surprising that you find a good selection of fish on offer here. Try the beech smoked mackerel in olive oil or sea urchin caviar, which is very popular in its homeland but less well known here. Both delicious in salads or served with good bread. The notes on food and wine matching make a useful addition.

AWARD WINNING

Flavours of Spain regularly scoop up awards, the most recent being at the Great Taste Awards with its Jamon Iberico Bellota. Cortijo de Suerte Alta organic olive oil has been added to the range and sits alongside two other prestigious oils, Rincon De La Subbetica and La Boella Premium. Saffron Molineta de Minaya is the world's best where 200 crocus flowers produce just 1 gram of saffron. Bomba rice, another new addition is so pure and freee from any kind of preservatives that it needs refrigeration once opened.

The personal gifts category has a selection of gourmet gifts that act as a good introduction to the range and of course make ideal presents. Consider the organic figs in Belgian chocolate, the chocolate collections of Oriol Balaguer, Spain's premier chocolatier and former pastry chef of El Bulli. The Salty Marcona almonds are the best you'll ever taste.

As for wine, Galicia has 128 grape varieties producing wine to suit all palates. Wine has been sourced from smaller family owned vineyards, where the emphasis is on quality rather than quantity. The small list (but ever growing) at Flavours of Spain has in the main been rated by Robert Parker and the wines on offer are in the top scoring region with points between 92 to 98. Both the white and red wines have been selected by Xoan Canas, a local sommelier and winner of the 'Golden Nose' Award 2004. Order 24 bottles of wine and you'll receive 5% discount.

There is a delivery charge of £6.50 on orders under £65 with free mainland UK delivery on orders over this amount. Flavours of Spain also has a stall at London's Borough Market.
