Henrietta Green's Food Lovers' Britain helps you source the best food locally.
Henrietta Green is still championing the cause of the small producer and very effectively too. Her favourites listed on the site produce the very best of sustainable and traceable British produce.
Henrietta takes a collection of food producers to the BBC Good Food Shows in May and November at the NEC and the BBC Festive Food Show at Earl's Court in December, London, details of which can be found on the site.
Henrietta's website provides the ideal solution to the British food loving public’s dilemma that Henrietta’s useful book ‘Food Lovers Guide to Britain’ has not been revised or reprinted for several years. This site effectively supercedes it.
You'll find pithy comment on the state of the British food industry, a small collection of recipes, advice on seasonal produce, guides to the best of each county, a product search database, events listings and links to useful information sites such as the Soil Association and British travel organisations.
The search facilities are good. When searching for a particular product you can select by type of company (mail order, farm shop, market stall etc), food category (drinks, cereals and grains, fish and shellfish, dairy etc), and give a keyword. You can also search by county to find what is available locally to you. “I rarely eat anything that is not British-made,” says
Henrietta and if that’s your (shopping) bag too, this site will help you cut down food miles and maximise the quality of local produce you consume.
