Bread Matters
There is nothing like baking your own bread for that genuine, rustic taste, and there is nobody better qualified than award-winning artisan baker, Andrew Whitley, to show you how.
WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
Situated in beautiful countryside just a few miles south of Edinburgh, Bread Matters operates out of Macbiehill Farmhouse. Here you will learn to make delicious breads that will cost half the amount of the average supermarket loaf. Fun and fulfilling, whether you are a bread-making beginner or a practiced professional, Bread Matters offers courses to suit all levels of skill and interest.
WHAT'S ON OFFER?
Andrew Whitley will teach you how to make various types of breads in the traditional way: using unadulterated, nutritious ingredients and some good old-fashioned hard work. The courses are entirely hands-on, meaning you will thoroughly enjoy yourself and get to take home the fruits of your labour at the end of the day.
There is a selection of courses to choose from, but beginners and family cooks may want to consider the one-day Daily Bread course, that includes:
• All the knowledge you need on yeast, flours, sourdough and kneading to make really good bread for your family.
• Four loaves of bread, made by your own fair hand.
• A signed copy of Bread Matters by Andrew Whitley.
• Coffee, lunch and tea (all organic with much of the food grown on site).
There is a limit of 11 students per course.
WHAT'S THE COST?
Courses range from the Daily Bread course at £185 per person to the Advanced Bread Matters course, Mon-Fri at a cost of £875. Check the site for course dates.
