The Hole in the Wall Gang Cookbook by Paul Newman and AE Hotchner
The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp was founded by Paul Newman and A.E. Hotchner in 1988 for children suffering from cancer and other life threatening diseases. The camps are funded by profits from their food company, Newman's Own. Every year, over 7000 children attend these camps. It is truly a worthwhile cause.
This book has been put together with the help of some of the children, who attend these camps, and their families. Their letters, photographs and recipes have been used to make this book what it is. It is a moving tribute to Newman and Hotchner who got the project off the ground and give hope and comfort to these terminally ill children.
This is a recipe book for the whole family, for everyone to enjoy food around a table with friends. The recipes come from family and friends such as Julia Roberts, Whoopi Goldberg and Candice Bergen, amongst others, who have all performed at these camps, and also from winners of Newman's Own Good Housekeeping recipe contest. This competition is held annually and the winners donate their prize money to a charity of their choice. The collection of recipes is therefore broad but essentially, they all have one thing in common. Only the best recipe will do for this brilliant charity.
We especially like Michael Bolton's white chocolate brownie hot fudge sundae and chocolate banana bread pudding, a rich combination of eggs, butter, bananas, cream, walnuts and bread. For the more savoury minded, try zucchini with mozzarella and pretzel crumbles, steamed courgettes and summer squash with melted mozzarella and the crispness of pretzels.
Everyone will find a favourite here and even if there are only one or two, the proceeds from the sale of this book go straight to the horse's mouth, the Hole in the Wall Gang.
