April 2009: The Daily Dish

The Blog of the Month for April is the Daily Dish. It's the work of the political blogfather himself: Andrew Sullivan, star of American political talk shows and influential journalist.

The Daily Dish has been around since the turn of the century, won the 2008 Weblog Award for Best Blog and is currently to be found on the Atlantic Monthly website, having moved there from Time in 2007. It's nothing special to look at, although the cartoon of Andrew Sullivan is great. But this is a good, solid, no nonsense blog, engaged and forthright, and featuring a number of different writers.

Andrew Sullivan is a former editor of the New Republic magazine. Although he lives in the US, he is from the UK. He describes himself as a libertarian conservative, but is far from a conventional right-winger of the stereotypical imagination. He gave his support to Bush the Younger in 2000, but endorsed Kerry in 2004 having become disillusioned with the Republican government's handling of Iraq. He supported Obama in the 2008 election and his support for same sex marriage has alienated him from many on the American right.

This is well worth a look.
