World Press Photo Winner Announced
5,247 photographers. 124 nationalities. 101,254 pictures. But there could only be one winner of The 2012 World Press Photo of the Year. The award was scooped by Spanish photojournalist Samuel Aranda whose emotive image of a woman clasping her wounded son made it through the rigorous judgement process.
The contest, now in its 55th year, is judged by an ever-changing panel of leading experts in all areas of visual journalism for an unbiased approach. Prize-winning photographs become the basis of an exhibition that travels to 45 countries, bringing professionals to the public.
