Skin - tattoo culture as high art

This month, on 16th November, Skin - the hotly anticipated documentary examining tattoo culture as high art - will be shown at leading art auction house, Christie's.



A debut feature film from Stamp director, Ryan Hope, Skin features contributions from Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Raymond Pettibon, Jake and Dinos Chapman and Richard Prince, who are filmed creating artwork for a new canvas for most of them: that of the human body.

Beautifully shot and conceived, Skin looks at the lives, dreams and motivations of the five individuals whose bodies will become high art and includes footage of master tattoo artists Mo Coppoletta, Mike Rubendall and Lindsey Carmichael etching work by the world's leading contemporary artists onto their subjects' bodies.

The project ends with a photoshoot for the debut issue of Garage, the art and fashion magazine launched by the partner of Roman Abramovich, Dasha Zhukova, who kick-started the idea for Skin back in May.
