Naomi Klein
Naomi Klein became the voice of the anti-globalisation movement with her book No Logo. Published in 2000 it described the anger and disillusionment of those who felt disenfranchised by the dominance of the American style of rapacious capitalism.
NO LOGO
As a passionate response to the idea that there is simply no other way of organising society than setting it up to maximize human greed, No Logo, the book which made Naomi Klein, was vital stuff. Since the success of that become Klein has joined along Noam Chomsky and Arundhati Roy and John Gray as one of the most eloquent and spirited of campaigners. The Shock Doctrine, published in 2007, is among the few books of recent years that deserves to be described as "important". Its treatment of the corporate exploitation of events such as the Asian Tsunami and the 2003 Invasion of Iraq is terrifying and revelatory.
THE WEBSITE
There is much to be enjoyed here. Naomi Klein's site collects articles published in publications such as The Nation, Rolling Stone and The Guardian. It also offers interviews and lots of audio-visual material. One of the highlights is a conversation between the author, Christopher Hitchens and George Monbiot at the 2008 Hay Festival. This is also the place to come to find details of the writer's tour schedule.
